Description

Most AI projects in operations stop at a demo: the assistant reads one invoice beautifully, and nobody dares to let it near a payment. This course takes you past that point. You learn to automate a complete document-heavy process, supplier invoices, so that clean documents flow through on their own, risky ones reach the right person with a clear reason, nothing is ever paid twice, and every decision can be explained to an auditor. Just as important, you learn to prove it: with measured accuracy, a fixed test set, honest savings and monitoring that catches problems after go-live.

What you will be able to do

• Decide, step by step, whether a process needs rules, AI or a hybrid, and find the real bottlenecks in an event log.
• Design human-in-the-loop workflows and choose confidence thresholds from the cost of errors and reviews.
• Extract fields from business documents, measure them field by field, and validate them with policy rules, including the three-way match of invoice, purchase order and goods receipt.
• Build exception queues with owners, safe repair rules and detection of edge cases such as duplicates and "do not pay" notes.

How the course is taught

Every lesson follows the same rhythm: a real situation from an accounts payable team, a precise explanation with a plain-words summary, a code demo you run in Google Colab, exercises that ask you to change rules and thresholds, and the key points to remember. You work on one realistic process throughout: the supplier invoices of the fictional outdoor retailer Trailhead Outfitters, with documents in several layouts, the policy they must follow and the history of the manual process. You never write a program from scratch; you run, read and adapt prepared, explained code.

No AI account, API key or payment is needed. An offline stand-in assistant reads the documents the way a real AI service would, including realistic mistakes: dates read the wrong way round, a total reported as the net amount, an invented purchase order number, an unfamiliar layout misread. Every output in the lessons comes from actually running the code, so what you read is what you will see. No-code platforms such as Power Automate, Zapier and Make are explained and compared without needing an account.
